Watching this week

  • Solo Leveling: My first anime! Checking it out thanks to a recommendation from a colleague. I've never been into anime, but after checking out the first two episodes I'm quite hooked already.
  • Elio: hoping to go see Elio in theaters. Still got a lot of catching up to do, it's high season in the movie theaters!
  • Lost: I was looking for a very bingeable series, something that messes with my head and disrupts my focus because I can't stop thinking about it (why would you want that??) so I finally started watching Lost.

Reading this week

  • A.I. by Lieven Scheire: I should be able to wrap this up this week. It's quite an easy read.

Learning this week

I'm looking to expand my skillset with DevOps / Cloud Ops skills. I need to make these courses a habit. It doesn't have to be long, 1 hour a day still results in a whole day of full-time studying at the end of the week.

  • Kodekloud
  • Expand PHP skillset: I use PHP daily for my fulltime job, but I don't feel very comfortable. It feels like my skillset needs an upgrade, so I want to work on that so I feel more comfortable. While it's true that you learn on the job, often there is a bit of time pressure involved as well (you don't want to waste the client's budget because you need more time to "do it right") so I think it's important to also schedule some stressfree moments (either in your own time or on the job if they allow it) to check out some courses, work on some passion projects, etc.

Content I'll create this week

  • It's been a while since I recorded an episode of my podcast De Privacy Paradox. I need to write a script/outline and record an episode.
  • I started a 'public notebook', because my own notebook was filling up with code snippets, commands, etc. By making this public I have easy access to it and maybe it can still help someone else. I'll make sure to add some additions to it this week.

⌨️ Tech things doing this week

  • Continue swapping out my current software stack for open source alternatives. I need to convince my girlfriend to use Proton Calendar instead of Google Calendar so we can share an ecrypted calendar and I can completely move away from Google Calendar.
  • Last week I switched out macOS with Ubuntu! Huge move, and one I'm very happy with so far. So this week, I just need to get used to Ubuntu and make sure that I moved everything over so I can eventually sell my MacBook.

💪 How I'll take care of my health this week

  • I really need to find a way to incorporate the gym into my current schedule. I've been paying for a membership for a long time but it has been months since I visited. Instead of saying "From now on let's go every morning!! LETSGOOOO", let's keep the barrier low. This week, I just want to go once.

Minimalism things doing this week

  • I bought quite a lot of things lately, so I need to take a hard look at my "old" possessions and decide if I'm actively going to use them or if I will sell them.

Random thoughts I had last week

  • I feel like a lot of people are always looking for "the next big thing", and it's usually drastically different from what they currently have. Your job for example. People get the job of their dreams and start thinking "what's next for me" after a while, while there is still so much to learn in their current job. Especially in tech the possibilities to expand your skillset in your current role is endless. This is why I'll take up some DevOps / Cloud Ops courses again in the upcoming weeks. I need to make that a habit.
